Proposed changes for the Transport of Dangerous Goods in Tasmania.
Workplace Standards is working to improve the safety of transporting dangerous goods in Tasmania by updating our legislation so it is more consistent with nationally developed model legislation.
The model legislation has been developed by the National Transport Commission with minor amendments.
If you are already compliant with the current dangerous goods laws they you are well positioned to meet the proposed new requirements. For many workplaces and duty holders responsibilities will not significantly change.
A copy of the draft Act and Regulations are available below.
More information will be available on our website once comments and feedback have been received and the draft legislation has been considered by Tasmania’s Parliament which is likely to be in October 2009.
Until the legislation is passed by Parliament the transport of dangerous goods continues to be covered by the Dangerous Goods (Safe Transport) Act 1998 (which has replaced the Dangerous Goods Act 1998) and the Dangerous Goods (Road and Rail Transport) Regulations 1998.
