10. Expired certificates of competency

My Certificate of Competency issue date has expired what are my options?

There will be a 20 working day period (after the 30th June 2011) where these can still be processed. Once this period has passed then the applicant will need to write to Workplace Standards Tasmania stating why their certificate should be converted or they will need to be re-assessed by a Tasmanian Registered Assessor.

Suitable reasons for having the above mentioned administrative procedure extended, that will require verification would be

  • a serious medical reason OR
  • out of the state or country for an extended period prior to the expiry date.

If an extension is to apply to the Certificate being converted, then the following will also apply

  • The holder of the certificate applying for the conversion must still be operating in the industry
  • A statutory declaration is to be completed or a letter from their current employer confirming this.

This opportunity to apply for an extension will only apply up to a maximum of six months after the expiry date, after that period the person MUST be re-assessed.

Where possible applicants that reside on the mainland should have their certificate processed through the local OHS authority.

Expiry dates, in Tasmania, will apply to all Certificates and Licences whether they have been issued by WST or a mainland OHS authority.
