Explosives import and export controls

To import or export an explosive through a Tasmanian port, you need to know the following:

  1. The port must be a 'recognised port'
  2. The amount to be imported/exported must not exceed the approved 'port explosives limits'
  3. The handling of the explosives at the port must be in accordance with AS3846
  4. Workplace Standards Tasmania and TASPORTS must receive notification prior to the vessel arrival or departure
  5. Companies transporting explosives to and from a port must have a SSDS permit and use drivers and vehicles that are licensed and approved to convey explosives
  6. Explosives (excluding Division 1.4) must not be brought to a berth for loading unless the ship is ready to receive them
  7. Explosives (excluding Division 1.4) must not be unloaded from a ship unless the means of transport by which they are to be removed from the port area is ready to receive them
