Review of Tasmanian Child Labour Laws

The Minister for Workplace Relations, David O'Byrne, announced a review of Tasmania's child labour laws on 29 July 2011.

The review is being conducted by Workplace Standards Tasmania.

Under the review, existing legislation will be reviewed to assess whether:

• Current laws are sufficient and appropriate to legally protect children employed in Tasmania;
• Any laws should be changed, strengthened or simplified to better protect children; and
• There should be increased education and compliance assessments to ensure the current laws are well understood and complied with.

The review will be released for public consultation in early 2012.
