Firework displays

When can a fireworks display be held?

A fireworks display can only be conducted by a person or organisation that has been issued with a fireworks display permit.

Permits to conduct a fireworks display will only be granted if

  • an application is made on an approved form and
  • the requirements of the regulations are deemed to be satisfied
  • the proposed fireworks display is for an approved purpose, as specified in Schedule 6 of the regulations

What conditions are placed on firework displays?

Typically these conditions relate to the following issues:

  • general safety, spectator safety and safe firing distances
  • notification and publicity
  • supervision and control
  • training
  • fire-fighting equipment
  • timing and duration
  • follow-up measures
  • incidents and accidents
