Approval of Pipelines for Conveying Dangerous Goods

Conditions to construct or operate a Pipeline:

Prior to the construction or operation of a pipeline to convey dangerous goods, approval must be obtained from Workplace Standards Tasmania (The Competent Authority). Refer to Part 6 of the Dangerous Goods (General) Regulations 1998.

Any person involved in the design, construction, ownership or operation is eligible to apply for this approval.

Application Process Details:
  • approval lasts the life of pipeline unless there is an alteration to the design, or unless rescinded by the relevant competent authority.
Lodgement Documents:
  • applications must be made in writing to Workplace Standards Tasmania
  • they must include
    • a plan, in triplicate, drawn to scale
    • showing the location and proposed location of all dangerous goods storage areas, tanks, loading and filling stations, pumps, pipelines, fire hydrants, electrical installations, roads and public ways, railways, magazines, buildings and protected works in the vicinity of the pipeline

  • the applicable fee. For the current fee contact the Helpline.
