Plumbers and gas-fitters FREE Plumbing Code of Australia education sessions - Preference form (Education sessions to be held during June-July 2012)
Legislation and documentation
(includes codes of practice, determinations, exemption orders, notifications and notices)
After 1 December 2010 you will be deemed to be licensed under the Occupational Licensing Act 2005, for varying periods, in the same class of licence as your current certificate of registration, or certificate of competency. It is anticipated that some may have a 'deemed' licence for up to 12 months, others may only have a 'deemed' licence for a month or so. This will allow Workplace Standards to integrate you into the new system through a staggered monthly process of renewals. No fee will apply at this time.
It is proposed that, during the period January to December 2011, Workplace Standards will send you a Practitioner’s Licence Renewal Application for you to complete and lodge through any Service Tasmania shop.
You will need to provide evidence of identification for your photo ID card.
All practitioner licences would be issued for a three year term.
If the renewal application is not received from you by the expiry date listed on the Practitioner’s Licence Renewal Application, your 'deemed' licence will expire on that date. If you wish to continue to undertake plumbing, gas-fitting or automotive gas-fitting work after your 'deemed' licence expires, you will need to apply for a new licence under the new system, which may require you to undertake additional training.
If you currently hold a Restricted Electrical Work Licence (REWL), it is proposed that this will form part of your new plumbing and/or gas-fitting licence. The REWL will be cancelled and any outstanding portion of the REWL fee refunded to you. You will then be asked to renew your REWL to align with the expiry date of your plumbing and/or gas-fitting licence.
If you are required to provide evidence of the status of your current registration and/or certificate (licence) during the transitional period prior to the renewal of your licence under the Act, you can produce your 2010 registration under the Plumbers and Gas-fitters Registration Act and/or certificate of competency under the Workplace Health and Safety Act.
There are two practitioner licences due to the relevant Training Package that applies to plumbers.
1. Plumber Practitioner licence - formerly the journeyman level.
2. Plumber Practitioner (Certifier) licence – formerly the advanced level.
A practitioner’s licence may be issued to a person who has completed any of the following qualifications within the relevant training package
(a) Certificate III in Plumbing (CPC32408)
(b) Certificate III in Plumbing – Mechanical Services (CPC32508)
(c) Certificate III in Roof Plumbing (CPC32608)
As it is expected that the development of the CPD requirements will require significant consultation and resources, this work will be postponed until after the regulations and codes of practice have been completed and the Occupational Licensing Act 2005 has commenced.
