Gratuitous work

Gratuitous work is prescribed work undertaken by licence holders where the work is undertaken without payment or reward and may include work for 'not for profit organisations', family, friends and clubs. Work undertaken for payment or reward is contracting work and requires a Contractor’s Licence.

Gratuitous work can only be undertaken by licence holders who can self-certify their work.

Before commencing gratuitous work, plumbers, gasfitters and automotive gasfitters must –

• have the required insurance cover as required by the Insurance Notice and
• complete and lodge the Occupational Licensing Gratuitous Work Form (GF121) with Workplace Standards Tasmania (no fee is applicable).

There are other obligations in relation to gratuitous work (these will vary with each occupation) which may include notifying the commencement or completion of 'prescribed work' and the completion of certificates of compliance.
