Supervision - (Equipment user or operator)

Licence to perform High Risk Work - New requirements

Under the NOHSC Standard for Users and Operators of Industrial Equipment [NOHSC: 1006] 'direct supervision' is defined.

Supervision means 'oversighting the work of an equipment user or operator in training with regard to directing, demonstrating and checking the trainee's work to a level appropriate to the tasks and the competence of the trainee and ensuring a capacity to respond immediately to emergency situations'.

For the purpose of the training, the person overseeing must hold a relevant certificate of competency and is authorised by the employer to oversee the user's or operator's training.

In circumstances where such a person is unavailable, the 'person overseeing the training' may be someone deemed to have appropriate qualifications according to national guidelines issued by certifying authorities.
