A person must not, without authority from the pipeline operator carry out any boring or excavation in, or on any ground that is subject to an easement ( 20 metres wide ) granted to a pipeline licensee for the purposes of a pipeline.
This does not apply to hand excavation, ploughing or cultivation down to a depth ( 30 centimetres) by owners or occupiers of land on which a pipeline is located.
Gas Transmission pipelines are identified by field warning markers every 100 metres.
Dial Before You Dig assists you in locating underground pipelines in the area you are planning to dig.
Enquiries should be directed to 1100 at least two working days prior to excavation.
