Gas Transmission
The Workplace Standards Tasmania Gas Standards and Safety Unit (GSS) was created to develop and administer the legislative requirements and business systems required to ensure public safety and infrastructure development standards for the emerging Tasmanian Natural Gas Project.
The GSS unit was established in 2000, during the formal approval period of the Tasmanian Natural Gas Pipeline (TGP) built by Duke Energy - Asia/Pacific. The sector’s role included administration of legislative requirements for the TGP construction and commissioning phase.
Following the construction phase the GSS unit now implements an audit function on Alinta DAO Pty Ltd the licensed operator of the TGP to ensure the safe operation of gas, the transmission infrastructure, pursuant to the requirements of the Gas Pipelines Act 2000.
