Role
Acts to facilitate the development of a natural gas supply industry and to ensure that pipelines, pipeline facilities, gas installations and gas appliances are constructed, maintained and operated to high standards of safety and in a manner that protects persons and property.
Gas Transmission (natural gas)
Certifify design, construction and operational standards of gas transmission pipelines and facilities.
Approves “gas entities” safety and operating plans including transmission pipelines.
Approves pipeline testing, commissioning plans.
Undertake investigations of incidents or non-controlled release of gas.
Approve emergency management and pipeline recovery plans.
Gas Distribution (natural gas and LP Gas)
Certify persons as “independent design certifiers” of gas facilities.
Accept designs of LPGas and natural gas distribution facilities.
Approve gas facility construction management plans.
Approve and review “gas entity” safety and operating plans, and investigate incidents of non- compliance.
Determine technical construction and operating standards.
Determine gas quality composition standards.
Approve emergency management and facility recovery plans.
Gas Appliances
Approve organisations as “external authorities” to class certify gas appliances.
Declare technical standards for gas appliance and component safety certification.
Approve individual type A gas appliances.
Accept and register type B gas appliances.
Approve relevant standards and codes for unique or complex gas appliances.
Approve persons to independently certify type B gas appliances.
Gas Installations
Approve complex and prescribed standard gas installations.
Accept embedded networks construction standards and safety management systems.
Approve persons as “independent certifiers” of high pressure or unique gas installations.
Investigate non-compliant gas installations or incidents of non controlled escape of gas.
