General Information - Certificates of compliance

A certified gasfitter is required to issue you with a Certificate/Statement of Compliance on completion of the installation of your appliance.

This certificate or statement of compliance states that

'...this gas installation meets the requirements of the Gas Act 2000 and the Gas (Safety) Regualtions 2002 and has been examined, tested, demonstrated and adjusted and it will be safe for gas to be made available to the customer.'

The Certificate will contain the following information:
  • Consumer details
  • Certified gasfitter's details including licence number
  • Details of the work to be undertaken
  • Details of the type of installation and appliance
  • See sample certificate below
The certified gasfitter is responsible for
  • ensuring the gas installation is not made unsafe during the work,
  • ensuring all work is safe for connection and use of natural gas,
  • instructing you on the safe use of the appliance according to the manufacturer's instructions,
  • issuing a certificate to you on completion of installation, and
  • sending a copy to the gas supplier in order for connection to take place.
