Restricted electrical licences - Refrigeration and air conditioning

Prior to commencing training or applying for this type of licence please ensure you have read the document below

PDF The Restricted Electrical Licence System in Tasmania Information Guide

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION MUST ACCOMPANY THE APPLICATION FORM:
  • A copy of your Certificate III in Electrotechnology – Refrigeration and Air-conditioning as issued to you by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), such as TAFE

or

  • Evidence that you meet the ‘demonstrated need’ as outlined in the Restricted Electrical Licence Information Guide. This shall typically take the form of testimonials and qualifications verifying your declared vocation or trade. Previous experience in this category for which you seek to be licenced, shall amount to nominally four years

and

  • a copy of your Restricted Electrical Licence course results as issued to you by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), such as TAFE

and

  • evidence of where, how and for what duration, you received your on-the-job electrical training relevant to the refrigeration and air-conditioning trade. This typically could take the form of a declaration by the supervisor/s who holds a current licence as an electrician or an REL in the same category.
  • Payment of the pro-rata application fee in accordance with the schedule of fees. This will align your licence term with the dates as laid down by regulation.
  • Mutual recognition of occupational licences

From February 2007, new arrangements have been put in place making it easier for licensed tradespeople, and authorities that issue licences, to know what licence a worker is entitled to when applying for a licence in another jurisdiction. Use link above for more information on mutual recognition.

NOTES:
  • Completion of the required theoretical (off-the-job) training does not mean you are automatically granted a licence. Each application will be individually assessed against the criteria.
  • This licence will not enable you to work as an electrical contractor (self-employed) or enter into a contract to perform electrical work, or to work as an (unrestricted) electrician. The licence is restricted to those who perform maintenance on existing equipment. New installation work or relocation of electrical wiring or equipment is not permitted.
  • Please send photocopies of your supporting evidence, not your originals, as we will retain these on file.
