New Applicants
The licence is issued to the business and entitles the holder to enter into contracts for electrical work (as defined by the Electricity Industry Safety and Administration Act 1997). An electrical contractor licence is valid for 12 months and may be renewed.
Obligations of the business
- Must engage a nominated manager (may be the owner of the business)
- Must have public liability insurance in accordance with the Electricity Industry Safety and Administration Regulations 1999 (the regulations)
- Must have paid the prescribed licence fee
- Under section 21 of the Act all holders of an electrical contractor's licence, including single operators, are required to keep a register of employees who perform electrical work on their behalf. A sample register has been included below or contractors may wish to develop their own.

Licence fee payments can be made via the following methods
- in person, using major credit cards, eftpos, cheque or postal order, at any Service Tasmania shop
- in person, using major credit cards, eftpos, cheque or postal order, during the hours of 9am - 5pm at the reception area of Workplace Standards Tasmania
