How do I comply with the law?

  • Building owners must maintain any essential health and safety features of their building and any essential safety and health measure necessary to ensure the safety of everyone using their building.
  • An owner must also keep records of when the maintenance or inspection of each safety feature or measure took place and by whom.
  • An owner must publicly display an annual statement (also called a Form 56) certifying that the features and measures have been assessed by appropriately qualified person(s) and are performing to a standard to which they were originally designed. This must be displayed near the entrance e.g. near reception or in a similar prominent position in the building.
