Building Appeal Board is established under the Building Act 2000
The Building Appeal Board is a body of at least 7 persons appointed by the Minister for Justice under the Building Act 2000.
The functions of the Appeal Board:
The Board of a Chairman and at least seven other members. Membership consists of persons with knowledge and expertise in building surveying, architecture, engineering, building, plumbing, local government, environmental and public health as well as access for people with disabiities.
The Appeal Board hears and determines appeals and applications made under the Act and disputes relating to any matter in the Building Regulations or the Plumbing Regulations.
An appeal or application to the Appeal Board is to be in an approved form and made in the specified period. The approved forms are available by contacting the Registrar.
Hearings are conducted with as little formality and technicallity and as much expedition as the Board considers appropriate. The Board is not bound by the rules of evidence and hearings are not open to the public unless the Appeal Board determines otherwise.
An appeal or application to the Appeal Board is to be accompanied by the fee prescribed in schedule 5 of the Building Regulations 2004 or schedule 4 of the Plumbing Regulations 2004 as appropriate.

Building Regulation Advisory Committee is established under the Building Act 2000
The Building Regulation Advisory Committee (BRAC) is a body of ten persons appointed by the Minister for Justice and Workplace Relations under the Building Act 2000.
Its functions are to
The Committee consists of a Chairman (who is also the Director of Building Control) and at least nine other members. Membership represents the building surveying, architectural, engineering, building and plumbing industries as well as local government, the fire services, the interests of the community and the environmental and public health services.
